Remnants of MTV

The work examines music videos through a layered and distorted video installation that compresses multiple clips into one video. Video clips are taken from a collectively collected archive that started from the end of the MTV music channel that was shut down at the end of 2025. Compression of the clips gives a sense of remembrance; some frames are instantly recognizable, while most of the frames hold no sentimental value or much of a hint from their origin. Loss of memorial connection and influence of dispersed visual residue metaphorically references how music video archiving is executed by decentralized individual practitioners, which easily leaves behind holes for digital material to fall through. This leads to the main argument of the installation, which is to ask how one’s generation's digital heritage will look and what of it will eventually be left behind from the turn of the digital era.
