What we can achieve from common materials and general practises? And, what are commonly used methods and conveniently accessible materials?

Nuts and bolts are one of the most used fasteners in the world and can be perceived as a generic. So does plates and specially metal plates. Different thicknesses of metal sheets and plates are commonly used throughout different industries all over, so, it can be also perceived as generic.

What are common operations used, which can be viewed as generic? First steps of creating or making 'anything' is in many cases cutting. It can be implemented with various different methods, tools and styles leaving diversity on the final results and finishes. Making a hole or drilling is arguably also one of simplest acts of working, which as well can be executed in various different ways. Both of these methods as a common practices and generic.

The question is not what materials and methodologies we have, it's how we utilize them.
